About Our Self Cleaning Litter Box
- Suitable for: Adult cats (6+ months) with normal mobility—even large breeds (like Maine Coons) work if the box has a spacious interior and low entry.
- Not ideal for: Kittens under 3 months (too small to trigger sensors, may get scared of mechanics), senior cats with severe joint pain (tall boxes are hard to climb), or extremely skittish cats (loud motors/raking may cause stress).
- Clumping clay litter (dust-free, tight clumps): Works with 90% of mechanical raking models (avoid ultra-fine or non-clumping clay, which clogs rakes).
- Silica gel/crystal litter: Only for "crystal-specific" self-cleaning boxes (absorbs urine well, no raking needed).
- Daily: Empty the sealed waste bin/bag (if full) and check for clumps stuck in the rake/sensor.
- Weekly: Refill litter to the "max line" (usually 3–4 inches deep) and wipe the interior with a pet-safe damp cloth (no harsh cleaners).
- Monthly: Deep-clean the rake, sensor, and bin with mild soap + water; replace carbon filters (if included) to control odors.
- Annually: Check for worn parts (e.g., rake blades, motor cords) and replace them per the brand’s guide.
- Sensor not activating: Wipe the sensor with a dry cloth (litter/dust blocks it) or adjust sensitivity (most models have a dial).
- Rake jamming: Turn off the box, remove clumps/foreign objects (e.g., cat hair) from the rake, and ensure litter isn’t overfilled.
- Motor not running: Check power (plugged in/batteries charged); if it still fails, contact customer service (most have a 1–2 year warranty).
- Use litter with activated carbon or baking soda (neutralizes smells).
- Choose models with sealed waste bins (traps odors inside) and replace carbon filters monthly.
- Place the box in a well-ventilated area (avoid closets/bathrooms without windows).
